Family Garden in Old Harlow

Children's play frame Clay paviors Composite decking Low maintenance

A local garden that we were given free reign during the design process with our client trusting us to deliver their dream garden.

We used some very modern products but were conscious to have the overall ‘feel’ of the garden in keeping with the Victorian property.

The brief for the garden included a social area, a good-sized lawn and a play area for the little ones.

Bi fold doors open up on to a composite Millboard decking platform, raised to clearly separate the area. Once established the planting will draw the eye down the garden giving a sense of mystery. Two good sized areas either side to accommodate a table and chairs, loungers and a bbq. These are constructed from Clay Pavors laid at 45-degree angle to add to the design.

A modern sawn granite (C.E.D Stone Group) path runs up the west side of the garden past a painted storage shed, low maintenance planting and an established bay tree to one side, on the other side a newly laid lawn with beds containing espalier trained fruit trees and mixed low planting. The flower beds have been mulched to add nutrients and suppress weeds. We also installed irrigation so the client doesn’t have to worry about watering the plants.

Towards the rear of the garden a play frame was erected with a small euonymous hedge surrounding it to soften the hard lines of the timber. Rubber resin bound bark was used as a base for the play area. This is a great product for as well as safety it remains nice and tidy with no material spilling over or being picked up and moved.

Carefully placed lighting in the garden ensures it can be used all year round. We also used uplighters to illuminate focal plants and trees, as well walkover lights in the deck to frame the areas.
